My name is Mrs. Hinson & I am thrilled to be joining the Bobcat family. I am originally from Martinsville, Virginia and got my BS & MS in English from Radford University. I started my teaching career in 10th & 11th grade English at Martinsville High school in Virginia. I moved to Charlotte in 2012 and began working at Ridge Road Middle in CMS, where I taught 7th & 8th grade ELA. I am excited to be teaching 5th grade this year and can't wait to get to know each of my students. My husband Dana and I live in Kannapolis with our 2 year old daughter, Ryleigh. She keeps us busy, but we love it. We love to spend time outside, exploring all of the fun things that the area has to offer. I love to read and take great pride in getting my students interested in and excited about reading! Reading is fundamental and books have the unique ability to transport the to various places. I am excited to see where the stories and novels that we will read this year will take us.
My class moto is, "Never settle for anything less than your best." I expect each of my students to "do their best" on all assignments. I encourage my scholars to try new things, to ask for help if they are confused, and to never give up or say that they can't do something. I have very high expectations for each of my students and am excited to work with them to help them to be successful. Fifth grade is a special year, the last year in elementary school, and it is my job to make sure that my Bobcat scholars are prepared for middle school. Coming from a middle school, I want to help my students to find their voice and to learn to take ownership of their learning. Students in my class will set goals for themselves and we will work together to make sure that they achieve them and are successful.
I know that this is going to be a great year and I look forward to making sure that each of my Bobcats finishing their elementary careers on a high-note and is ready to be successful in middle school.
