Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome! My name is Ms. Schellhase, and I’m thrilled to be here for my first year of teaching at Cabarrus Tech! Together we’ll be learning about United States’ History. Though we’re all anticipating this year to look a little different, I want to start by saying: I’m glad you’re here, and I’m thankful that I get to work with students and families. Please do not hesitate to contact me about anything you might need as we go into this unprecedented year.
We often don’t think about it this way, but one of the things that I love about US history is that we’re a part of it. The people who started this story have now given it to us. I’m thankful to be in this story with you, and I’m excited to meet you. Welcome to US history Class!
Here’s just a little background on me. I grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas where I learned about the heroes of the Civil Rights movement from my own town. In 1957 nine students became the first black students to integrate an all white high school in downtown Little Rock. Just to have their first day of school, they endured incredible hatred and racism.
They are now known as the Little Rock Nine, and their story is important for many reasons that we’ll talk about when we study them in class. But for now, I bring it up to tell you that high schoolers are capable of incredible courage and resilience. And they give me hope: hope that even though this year, with all its ups and downs, requires courage, we can do it together. Welcome to my class and my website! I'm glad to have you.
