Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Kelly Potts

Hi Bulldogs!  My name is Ms. Kelly Potts, and I'm thrilled to enter my first year as Choir Director at Jay M. Robinson High School!  I was born and raised in Southern California, and being from a musical family, was able to observe my older siblings play music from the time I was born.  I started piano lessons at age four, and spent most of my childhood focused on music (piano, various instruments in band, and choir).  I knew from a young age that becoming a choir director was my calling.

I earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and also spent a year minoring in Piano Performance at East Carolina University.  Some of my favorite musical moments include: Competing in five national piano competitions from age 10-15, singing backup for Andrea Bocelli and Kristin Chenoweth in 2018, and participating as a soloist in the worldwide premier of “Gloria in C” by Antonio Lotti--a piece that had been discovered after being lost for over 300 years.

For the past five years, I have been an elementary general music teacher with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.  I've also spent the last six years directing and singing in choir at First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte.  To find out more about chorus at Jay M. Robinson High School, please reach out to me via email or voicemail.
