Welcome to Food and Nutrition 1. This course examines the nutritival needs of the individual. Emphasis is placed on fundamentals of food production, kitchen and meal management, food groups and their preparation and time and resource management. Students also are proivded with an opportunity to join Family, Career, Leaders of American, the only Career Technical Student Organization where family is the focus. FCCLA provides students with many opportunities in competitive events, community service, and leadership. Students also gain insightful knowledge concerning workplace readiness skills, job opportunities, and a look at the pulse of the job market.
In my free time I love to sew, embroider, design, cook, and even cater. I am a native of Charlotte, N.C. but have lived in Cabarrus County for 38 years. I am in my 23rd year of teaching coming from industry where I was the Director of Clinical Nutrition. I have two children that are both Central graduates. I graduated from Appalachian State University (B.S.) degree in Family and Consumer Science with an emphasis in Nutrition and Dietetics and a minor in Chemistry, and from Winthrop University (M.S.) degree in Environmental Science with an emphasis on Nutrition and Public Health.
I also serve as the Chair for District 6 (Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Union, Stanly, Anson, Lincoln, and Gaston) State Leadership Council. I am passionate about FCCLA and giving back to others and my community.
