Ms. Caitlin Gallion
Hello! I'm Ms. Gallion and I'm so excited to have you in Health this year! This is my second year at Griffin as both a teacher and athletic trainer, after spending 5 years in Northwest Arkansas as an athletic trainer and high school Sports Medicine teacher. I'm originally from Seattle, Washington and graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 2011 with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education with concentrations in Pre-Physical Therapy and Pre-Athletic Training. I then went on to get my Masters degree from the University of Arkansas in Athletic Training in 2014. I'm currently licensed as an athletic trainer in the state of North Carolina.
In my free time I love spending time with my fiance, our animals (dog Millie and cats Bailey and Cash), kayaking and hanging out with family. The easiest way to communicate with me is through email as well as during your class Live sessions- listed below.
If you need me for anything else, please don't hesitate to email me! I am happy to set up an appointment for Office Hours outside of a Live session.
Family Life Parent Letter From Dr. Lowder:
The Cabarrus County Board of Education is committed to a sound, school health education program that provides students with accurate information and encourages them to be responsible for their own health and behavior. The Board recognizes the primary role of parents/guardians in providing for the health and well-being of their children and seeks to involve parents/guardians in the schools. The school health education program provided by the school district will meet all requirements established by state and federal law, including N. C. Gen. Stat. §115-81 (el); HB 88-Healthy Youth Act of 2009. Furthermore, the school health education program will meet all of the objectives contained in the Framework for Healthful Living Education adopted by the State Board of Education. The school health education program will be taught to students from kindergarten through ninth grade.
As required by law, this program will include age-appropriate instruction on the benefits of sexual abstinence until marriage and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, virus infection and other communicable diseases, and information on contraceptives. Curriculum materials are accessible for review on the Curriculum and Instruction Middle School Parent Resources webpage and are included under the Middle School Family Life Resources heading.
Every effort has been made to provide quality Reproductive Health and Safety instruction for your child. The teachers have received special training and will only use approved curriculum materials and supplements when teaching in the classroom.
As educators we are sensitive to the need for age-appropriate, medically accurate information and the various maturity levels of students. The topics will vary by grade level; 6th: Reproductive Health and Safety (Physical Development, Abstinence); 7th: Reproductive Health and Safety (Abstinence, HIV, AIDS, Rape and Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault); 8th: Reproductive Health and Safety: Abstinence, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (specifically how theses illnesses occur and harmful health effects), review of HIV and AIDS, contraceptives, and Teen Pregnancy; 9th: Anatomy, Teen Pregnancy, Pregnancy Prevention, STDs, Dating Skills.
If you have questions or concerns or would like to review the curriculum, please contact the health teacher or school administrators to assist you in making your decision about your child’s participation.
You may request that your child be excluded from the Reproductive Health and Safety curriculum. If you choose to exclude your child, you must do so by writing a letter to the principal and health teacher stating that you do not wish for your child to participate in Reproductive Health and Safety Education. Alternate and comparable health assignments will be given.
