EMT/Health Science Look-in
Law & Justice Look-in
What is the Public Safety Academy?
Concord High School is the only school in Cabarrus County to offer a Public Safety Academy. The PSA is a four-year career academy with a focus on 3 different pathways: EMT, Fire, and Law. The Academy will develop students toward a career in public safety through a series of courses that focus on academics, personal development, and work-based learning experiences which will prepare them to be college and career ready. All courses use hands-on learning techniques with an emphasis on strengthening leadership, team building, and applicable skills. The curriculum is vetted by industry professionals to ensure content is current and relevant and all PSA teachers are either current or retired professionals in their respective field of public safety. Students are also encouraged to showcase the skills learned in the academy in various competitive events, such as Skills USA.
Who can apply to the Academy?
All rising freshmen in Cabarrus County that have an interest in one of the pathways of public safety: Fire, Law, or EMT may apply.
What is the benefit of enrolling in the Academy?
In all fields of public safety, a competence in skills is essential to a successful career in that field. The Public Safety Academy will prepare students to be work-ready by the time they graduate from high school, thereby preparing students for success in college and/or career.
Will my student still be able to enroll in AP/Honors classes while in the Academy?
Yes. Academy students will still have opportunities to enroll in a myriad of rigorous courses including those designated as AP or Honors.
Will my student be able to take other electives?
Yes. Students will still be able to enroll in many other electives in addition to their academy courses.
Is the Academy more difficult than the traditional high school model?
While the rigor of some courses may be more difficult, Academy students will learn pertinent skills that are transferable to most any career choice.
Will PSA students still be able to participate in extracurricular activities?
Yes. Academy students will have the same opportunity as other Concord HS students to participate in athletics, band, student clubs, etc
