Mrs. Kat Motuz
Welcome Noble Knights! I am looking forward to another great year here at J.N. Fries! This is my second year here at Fries, and I am the counselor for 6th grade and the 7th grade Hurricane Team (consisting of teachers Widenhouse, Quillen, Porter, & Anspach). Please feel free to reach out if you have any concerns, email is the best way to reach me.
A bit of background on me... I grew up with my parents and 2 siblings in Florida, South Carolina, Saudi Arabia, and North Carolina. I graduated from Western Carolina University with my Bachelors in Parks and Recreation Management in 2013. Soon after, I moved to Utah where I worked as a wilderness therapy guide for 2 years before returning to Asheville, NC to pursue my Master's Degree in School Counseling from Western Carolina University. I now live in Charlotte with my husband. We love travelling the world and going on outdoor adventures such as snowboarding, hiking, canyoneering, bungee jumping, and more!
Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges.
Small Group Counseling
A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-12 members and usually meet once a week for several weeks.
I visit each classroom multiple times throughout the school year and have the chance to interact with every student during these lessons. Lessons typically last 60 minutes in length and cover topics such as school readiness skills, understanding feelings of self and others, problem solving skills, bullying, social skills, and study skills.
