About Me

Welcome to my website! This semester I am teaching Foods and Nutrition 1. I have over 27 years teaching high school.

I was born and raised on the beautiful island of jamaica (in the hills of Manchester). I completed as associate degree in dietetics, and enjoyed working in hospitals, but wanted more. I taught foods and nutrition for one semester and enjoyed interacting with my students. This pushed me to complete a bachelors degree in secondary education specializing in foods and nutrition. I graduated from Northern Caribbean University 1996 and spent the next 3 years molding creative minds and producing great food.

I moved to the USA August 1999 to pursue graduate studies. Graduating 2001 with a masters degree in Food Studies/Food Management from New York University opened my eyes to how much america had to offer in terms of work experience. Working as Patient Service Manager at Staten Island University Hospital was the highlight of my career in the food industry. 9/11 changed my life. I returned to jamaica 2002 and spent a year mourining friends I lost and findging comfort in the classroom with my students.

August 2006 I returned to America to teach at Central Cabarrus High School. I finally felt like I was home. I taught in the VIF (Visiting International Faculty) program for 3 years, then returned to Jamaica to give back service to my country. I worked at Northern Caribbean University chairing the dietetics department from 2009 until 2011 when I returned to NC to teach at West Forsyth High. Cabarrus County was always home for me, so it was no surprise when I returned to Central Cabarus High 2013.

2016-2017 had me flying all over America as a career trainer doing semeniars to managers and supervisors for the Fred Pryor company. While I am passionate about traveling and working in the food industry, I love the challenge of working with students who pushes me to write recipes create more tasty dishes. Joining the charger family December 2017 has been a welcome change. I am looking forward to getting to know all my students and enjoy a full school year as a Charger.
