Mr. Darin Roberts, Principal

I am a graduate of Radford University which is located in Radford, Virginia.  I taught fifth grade language arts and social studies at Westmoreland Middle School in Danville, Virginia in 1994.  I then moved to Cabarrus County and taught seventh grade social studies and language arts from 1994 to 2003.  In 2003 I was accepted into the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program to begin a two-year process to earn a Masters Degree in School Administration from UNC-Charlotte.  The last year of that program was spent as a principal intern at Harrisburg Elementary.  In 2005, I was hired as assistant principal at Pitts School Road Elementary where I was until January of 2011 when I transitioned to Furr Elementary.

I am very happy to be principal of Carl A. Furr Elementary.  It is truly a pleasure to work with you and your children.  Please contact me if I can be of any assistance.

I am Lisa Moore, the Assistant Principal of Instruction at Carl A. Furr Elementary.  I work closely with the teachers to make sure all the classrooms have instructional materials to address student needs.  I also provide ongoing staff development for the staff.

Exciting things are happening in the areas of curriculum and instruction this year. North Carolina adopted new Essential Standards in the areas of reading and math.  Teachers have spent time this summer reviewing the new standards.  Cabarrus County does an excellent job of providing curriculum maps and resources to implement the curriculum.  Many of teachers from Furr serve on district curriculum writing teams each summer to develop the maps and locate instructional resources.

Schools in Cabarrus County participate in a Multi- Tier Systems of Support (MTSS) which provides a framework in which data is reviewed on a continuous basis.  Through formative assessments and school wide benchmarking, teachers will be able to address individual student needs.  As first quarter ends, please attend a parent/teacher conference to learn more about your child’s strengths and needs.  If you have questions about your child’s performance give your teacher a call.

To keep parents informed of student learning Cabarrus County will be implementing Standards Based grading in grades K-5 in all elementary schools.  While this is not new if grades K-3, we will be implementing Standards Based grading in grades 4-5 this year.  With the shift to Standards Based, we will showcase student learning throughout the year.  There will be opportunities for you to see what your child is learning.

I look forward to working with your family and watching your child grow and learn many new things!

Mrs. Tiffane Maltba, Assistant Principal

I am excited to be working at Furr 12 months now instead of 10 as I did last year as the Dean of Students.  This school year I will be an Assistant Principal.  My primary roles are to facilitate transportation needs, meet with students to support learning and behavior needs, and to be a support for teachers in a variety of capacities.  I joined the Furr staff with experience as a Kindergarten, First, Third, and Fifth grade teacher. I have a BA in Education from Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA. In May 2017, I graduated from Gardner-Webb University with my Masters in Executive Leadership. I live in Concord, NC but I am originally from Montoursville, PA.  I am married and we have one daughter named Carlee.  She attended Furr, and this year is starting 11th grade at Robinson High School.  We also have two dogs, named Smitty and Teddy, both named after former Carolina Panthers players.
