Cabarrus County Schools is constructing a new middle school on Roberta Road. This middle school will provide much needed relief for many other middle schools and provide additional space for future population growth. The attendance zone changes were necessary in order to create an attendance boundary for the new middle school and to balance utilization across schools.

Cabarrus County Schools must study and realign attedance zones when a new school is constructed. • What was the process for changing school boundaries?

    Posted by:

Cabarrus County Schools partnered with a K-12 school planning consultant, Cropper GIS Consulting LLC, to conduct a realignment study and create a realignment plan for the 2022-23 school year.

The study included the formation of an Internal Planning Team (IPT)  consisting of school district administration and staff to assess various levels of impact to students, schools, programs, transportation, and future growth.

In addition, the consultant formed a volunteer focus group (the Public Advisory Committee or the PAC) to gain feedback from community members regarding the realignment criteria and the places in which they live, work, and do business. The PAC did not vote on a final recommendation; however, the group did provide input throughout the study.

Lastly, the members of the IPT provided realignment study information to the public by hosting public information sessions, posting documents to the realignment website, and sharing online interactive maps. The team received feedback from the community through multiple sources including general feedback forms, emails, and public comment sessions during school board meetings.
