• A little about how I support Students and Families...

As your child's School Counselor I often I consult with teachers, parents, and others regarding student's needs as well as make referrals to outside agencies when needed. I am available to Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade for individual counseling, conflict mediation, and small group counseling. I plan and teach skill building lessons which are delivered to your student/s during the specials rotation. During these lessons we cover topics including but not limited to Social Skills, Character Education, Conflict Resolution, Interpersonal Skills, Academic Skills, Career Exploration and Awareness as outlined in the NC Essential Standards for Guidance.

During remote learning my emphasis will be on Social-Emotional Learning. Research shows that SEL not only improves achievement by an average of 11 percentile points, but it also increases prosocial behaviors (such as kindness, sharing, and empathy), improves student attitudes toward school, and reduces depression and stress among students. Effective social and emotional learning programming involves coordinated classroom, schoolwide, family, and community practices that help students develop the following. You should expect to hear about our weekly topics from your child's classroom teacher.

Alongside of my Student Support Team (SST) we also support families who may need assistance with basic needs by connecting them with community resources. I also encourage you to visit our county Social Work  resource page for a list of ongoing resources.
