Ms. VanLeuvan
  • Hi! My name is Kayla VanLeuvan and I am a first-year teacher at Concord High School. I currently teach Bible and will be teaching Social Studies courses after this semester. History is so important to study because it can help us know why things are the way they are today. I love being able to bring in real-life examples in history that students can relate to their own personal lives…after all, they love to learn when it impacts them, and they can make connections.

I grew up in a small town called Wallburg, North Carolina. I attended a high school where school pride was huge, and you graduated with the same people you began Kindergarten with. That is one aspect that brought me to Concord. I love the traditions and the community feeling you get at this school!

I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where I majored in History and minored in Secondary Education and Political Science. I have seen the university grow into a thriving college campus during the years I attended. (This is the only green I will wear here at Concord- Go Niners!!) While in college I worked in management at Concord Mills Chick-fil-a. I am blessed to have worked for such an amazing company and to learn some valuable skills that have helped me in my current job.

I coach Cross Country, Winter Track and Spring Track here at Concord High. I love working with athletes and seeing them progress and mature in their social and physical abilities. I am a firm believer in the saying, “If you say you can’t, you can’t. If you say you can, you can.” Running is a huge passion of mine and working with these kids is a privilege. I am excited to see the program continue to grow!

In my time away from Concord, I enjoy many different things. I love exercising and staying in shape. During the summers I love going to concerts and seeing my favorite artists. I always value my time with my family because we don’t get much of it anymore since everyone has grown up and gone into college or their careers. I absolutely love watching football…My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. (I suppose black and yellow is suitable for working at Concord now).

I am truly blessed to be given the opportunity to work at CHS with this admin team and faculty. It feels like home. I am thankful to work with your children and help them take the steps necessary to make it to their next journey in life.
