• A Message from Dr. Chris Lowder, Superintendent  08/22/2016

Superintendent Lowder Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!

We are excited about the new year and can’t wait to welcome the nearly 32,000 students enrolled in our schools!

We proudly continue our tradition of offering families a variety of educational opportunities and choices, while remaining committed to providing traditional education paths that include opportunities for enrichment and engagement in areas such as athletics, performing and visual arts, advanced placement and academically gifted programs.

This school year, we are opening two new schools:  Cabarrus Early College of Technology, our second early college, and W.R. Odell Elementary, a new school for students in grades 3-5. Other school building changes include W.R. Odell Primary School, which will serve students in kindergarten through 2nd grades and Charles E. Boger Elementary welcoming students and staff from Royal Oaks Elementary while construction on a new building for Royal Oaks is under way. Additionally, Wolf Meadow Elementary School began operating on a new year-round calendar and have been back in session since July.

We appreciate the support of our County Commissioners who provided funding for these construction projects, as well as funding for increases in teacher supplements and technology purchases. With this funding, we have been able to purchase 4,500 devices for our classrooms, helping us continue our transition from textbooks to digital tools.

Rest assured, we understand that no new technology or smartphone app can compare to an excellent teacher and an engaging lesson, so we continue to recruit and hire the best and brightest teachers. For the third consecutive year, our teachers have been named No. 1 in the region for student growth, which means our students are making significant gains in learning each year.

To continue these positive gains, it is extremely important that school attendance remain a priority. Research shows that attendance is the best predictor of school success, so please do all that you can to minimize student absences.

Thank you for choosing Cabarrus County Schools. We can’t wait to get started and know it’s going to be a great year!

    Sincerely,

    Chris
