Ms. Sophia Berhane

Hello students, families, and staff,

I am Sophia Berhane originally from Minneapolis Minnesota. This is my fourth year at CC Griffin Middle School and I have the pleasure of working in 6th grade this year while working in the exceptional children department. I teach ELA resource and ELA inclusion this year and am excited for the year to begin. I enjoy history and traveling. I have helped develop a curriculum for social studies courses in Minnesota and have also completed many technology integration courses.

Students will have homework every night. Their homework is to read for at least 20 minutes. It can be any type of reading; books, magazines, tumblebooks, books on tape, newspaper articles etc.

Grading Scale:

Students will be graded based on the following criteria:

➢ Tests/Quizzes/Some Projects (Performance) 70% ➢ Some Projects, Class work, some Homework (Practice) 30%

➢ A = 90 – 100% ➢ B = 80 – 89% ➢ C = 70 – 79% ➢ D = 60 – 69% ➢ F = 0 – 59%

Missed assignments, tests, and quizzes:

In the event that a student is absent from class, assignments must be made up within three school days after returning to school. Students should make arrangements with the teacher to make up quizzes or tests within three days of returning to school.

Zero Policy: If a student does not turn in an assignment, a zero will be recorded. Adjustments will be made to the grade as long as the student turns in the assignment within 5 days of the due date. This may be full or partial credit. If the assignment is not turned in before the 5th day after the due date, the zero remains. A blank space or dash in PowerSchool means the assignment has not been graded, or the student was absent. YOU MAY CHECK YOUR CHILD’S GRADE IN POWERSCHOOL, which will be available by the end of September.
