PBIS stands for "Positive Behavior Intervention and Support". Cox Mill has been implementing PBIS since 2012 and has received the honor of 2014-2015 and 2016-2017 North Carolina PBIS Model School Award.Cox Mill's universal expectations are the 3 R's: Respectful, Responsible, and Ready. These expectations are modeled and taught in all areas of our school, including buses, cafeteria and the playground. Classes have the opportunity to earn stars (placed on a Star Chart outside each classroom) for showing the 3 R's during the school day. When a class reaches 25 stars, they are able to choose from a list of incentives. Individual students are also able to earn Yellow Tickets when they show expected behavior. Yellow tickets are placed into a raffle drawing each month. One student from each class is selected to attend a reward party and their pictures and names are posted on the PBIS bulletin board in the front of the school. The more yellow tickets a student has, the better chance he/she has of being chosen.Serving as one of our school's PBIS coaches, I have personally seen the positive results of its implementation. Students are motivated to show our school's expected behavior and teacher/student morale is high. Not only this, but discipline referrals have also decreased! Our PBIS team meets monthly to review behavior data and make plans toward successful implementation. At this time, our PBIS team is looking for a parent representative. If you are interested in serving in this role, please contact Mrs. Stiffel.
