• This Week in Room 719
     September 23-26

You should have received two grammar quizzes in Friday folders this week. The information we use during the week to practice grammar skills is on Google classroom. You will find the quiz on there as well.

Additionally, students may log in to Readworks.org and view the three quizzes we've taken so far this year. I have left comments on the questions where applicable. Moving forward, students will lose points for not answering in complete sentences, not using capital letters or punctuation marks, and for misspelling words that are in the story and/or questions.

Unit One, Launching and Creating Meaning by Studying Characters is an eight week unit so we are continuing to focus our efforts there. Last week we identified what it means to be a "power reader." This week we will wrap up the "launching" part of this unit by learning how power readers share their thoughts.

We will move right into studying characters by getting to know them and living in the world of the story.

There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar is getting really good!! We found out last week exactly who it was that was in the girls' bathroom!

    Social Studies:
We finally started our discussion of the Lost Colony last week. This week will get into the mystery of the colonists and the theories about what happened to them. Ask your children to share this mystery with you!

We are using a variety of resources during this unit: Discovery Education, NCPedia, old SS textbooks and newspapers, and lessons/activities compiled from fourth grade teachers across NC.
