District Overview


    • During the 2018-2019 school year our system educated approximately 33,000 students.
    • One of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina
    • Our system currently employs approximately 4,000 people (2,400 teachers).
    • CCS is constantly growing: 
      • 20 elementary schools
      • 8 traditional middle schools
      • 7 traditional high schools
      • 2 Early Colleges
      • 1 preschool
      • 1 non-traditional middle school
      • 2 non-traditional high schools
    • Predicted growth of 500-1,000 students every year over the next 10 years
    • More than 100 career and technical education programs
    • Two $3 million i3 grants from the U.S. Department of Education
    • Class of 2018 had access to more than $54 million in scholarships.

    • Moving from textbooks to digital tools

Specialty Programs

    • STEM Programs: CCS has a K-12 STEM pipeline. 
    • International Baccalaureate Programs are expanding
    • Language Immersion Programs: students will receive instruction in both Spanish or Chinese, and English
    • Two Early College High Schools: offering students an opportunity to earn an Associate Degree during their four year high school education
    • High School Academies: Biotech and Health Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics, Hospitality and Tourism, Energy and Sustainability, as well as Information Technology and Programming
