This is my fifteenth year of teaching, a second career I ventured into after working in the Mental Health field with children for years. A California native, I received my Associate in Arts degree from Diablo Valley College, my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University, and completed my teaching coursework through the Fortune School of Education. I have lived in North Carolina for 9 years and recently obtained my Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am Central Cabarrus High School's 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year and was a top 5 finalist for Teacher of the Year for Cabarrus County Schools.
I love teaching and take pride in the positive relationships I create with my students. I am looking forward to working with you all this year!

Description of Categories:
Participation credit is given for joining our synchronous virtual sessions Monday through Thursday and actively engaging with the instruction that happens during that time. If students are unable to participate in synchronous learning opportunities, an email should be sent to Mrs. McCord prior to the date to be missed. Students are still responsible for any work missed.
Classwork: This is any work given for students to complete that will be graded. Examples include work given during synchronous learning time, discussion posts, assignments that are to be submitted into Canvas, and independent work to be completed during work time and/or asynchronous learning.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be given to assess skills. Quizzes are graded for accuracy.
Progress Monitoring: Progress monitoring assignments are based on IEP goals and are used to assess progress on these goals. Grading is based on effort only not on accuracy. For example, a student who answers questions completely, shows work and reasoning, and follows the instructions will receive full credit even if the final answers are incorrect. Students are encouraged to answer questions without assistance (no looking up answers online or getting other types of assistance) as the data collected from this lets me know how they are progressing with their individual goals.
