NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION PROCESS
CCS employees interested in pursuing National Boards are encouraged to join us in our introductory sessions above.Our next cohort will begin October 17th from 9-11:30am. NB process highlights:-
All four components must be attempted in the first three years of candidacy. Those teachers or counselors who begin the process during the 2019-2020 year or after may choose to complete the components one at a time, or complete all components during that year.
- National Board will now charge $475 per component for a total of $1900. Additionally, National Board will charge an annual processing fee of $75. North Carolina will continue the loan process for eligible candidates. Please know, last year the loan funding ran out. The sooner you apply, the better!

- The NB Standards, the Five Core propositions, and the Architecture of Accomplished Teaching will not change. NB Certification remains performance-based and peer-reviews, with the same emphasis on content knowledge and commitment to student learning.

Who is eligible?Please check your eligibility before registering for this process. The $75 processing fee is non-refundable.NBPTS Eligibility Requirements NC Eligibility Requirements for State LoanAt least 3 years experience as a pre-K-12 classroom teacher or counselor in a public or private school..A teacher or counselor paid entirely from state funds. The candidate has no previous use of state funds for NBC process. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Three full years of teaching in NC Public Schools. A valid teaching license or a license to practice as a school counselor. A Continuing NC license. Engagement in direct classroom instruction, library/media or counseling 70% of the time over the course of the academic year.
