  • What is Program Choice?

    Program Choice in CCS is part of the public school system and is supported by our district to offer a more personalized approach to the regular school programs. Program Choice refers to any school in CCS with a designated program that students may attend from outside their attendance zone. Currently we offer IB, STEM, Language Immersion, Year Round, Fine Arts, Early College, Public Safety, and NAF Academies.  Interested students from anywhere in the county may apply.

  • How do I apply to for Program Choice?

    Applications will be available online through the Cabarrus County Schools webpage and can be completed by using any computer, tablet or mobile device with internet accessibility.  For families without access to a computer or for questions about the application, please contact Student Services at 704-260-5684.

  • What is the timeline for applying to Program Choice?

    Applications will be available in October and will close in December prior to winter break. Parents will be notified of application status in February.

  • What if my child doesn’t have EOG scores?

    Your child’s nationally normed standardized achievement test scores in reading and math must be at the 75th percentile or higher to be eligible for placement. Your child’s achievement score sheet must be submitted along with the application in order to be considered.

    No, Program Choice is part of the public schools in Cabarrus County.

  • How is a student selected for Program Choice?

    Students must be residents of the Cabarrus County School District and meet the criteria for admission in order to attend.  Students must submit an online application by the deadline.  If there are more applicants than spaces available, students will be selected by lottery.

  • After my child is accepted into a Program Choice School, do I have to reapply every year?

    No, families will not be required to reapply unless their home address changes or in cases of realignment.  Students must continue to meet the criteria of the Program Choice Expectations Agreement.

  • As an employee, may I apply for Program Choice for my child?

    Employees have the opportunity to apply for Program Choice placements during the annual Program Choice application period.  Only those CCS employees at a specific Program Choice school receive priority placement at the school if their child meets entry requirements. CCS employees may not request transfer of their children into Program Choice during the annual transfer period.

  • Will transportation to and from school be provided?

    Students living within the transportation boundary will be eligible for traditional busing within neighborhoods. Students living outside the transportation boundary can utilize our hub stops if they are offered. Please look at the specific program for Hub stop locations (if offered). We also have the KidsPlus program that offers before and/or afterschool care for children. Please check the Kids Plus website to determine if the school with your program of choice offers KidsPlus.

    Yes, AIG and EC students will be served at all Program Choice schools in order to meet their unique learning needs.

  • Can a child enter a school with Program Choice during the school year?

    Posted by:

    Students that move into a school boundary with a whole school choice program may enter during the school year, along with students who have come from similar programs in other locations. All other students must wait for the annual application period to apply.

    Students may try out for sports at the school they attend if they meet eligibility requirements. Students who choose to attend our early colleges are not eligible to participate in sports.

    Students in the 8th grade may apply for a high school program (STEM/IB/Academies) for their upcoming 9th grade year.  Students enter the IB Diploma Programme in 11th grade at West Cabarrus High School. In cases of new programs, seats may be made available in academy programs.
