Mrs. Laura C. Warr

Hello, everyone! I'm Laura Castrodale Warr, your trusty School Library Media Coordinator. I have been part of the Maverick Family since 2013, coming to the library after three years of teaching here (and seven years teaching total). I'm thrilled to be serving you in the library, and I can't wait to help you find the resources you need for research, entertainment, and collaboration!

My favorite kinds of books are realistic fiction and historical fiction, though I have favorites in nearly every genre (no horror - I get scared too easily). I also love reading articles and using the #RidgeBUILDERS process to help me find information and hone my ideas.

I have way too many interests to list, but things I do outside of school are: cook using my sense of smell, kayak lakes with my husband, listen to podcasts about history/politics/ideas, design digital content, run video camera in an AV team, and READ!

Did you know that I haven't always loved reading? In fact, I used to get anxious and panic when I thought about going to a library. Ask me about it sometime - because there's a place for "non-readers" here, too. Everyone is welcome.

I'm Mrs. Tyson and I have been the Media Assistant at HiRMS since 2012. I started out at Cabarrus County Schools when we moved here from North Dakota as a substitute teacher. Soon after I was hired on as the Testing Coordinator. I held that position for 9 years before accepting the Media Center job.

I am a Texas transplant to North Carolina. I've lived here with my family since March of 1998. My family and I love North Carolina and are happy to be able to live in such a fantastic state. Beach, mountains and lots of history all within a days drive! What more could you ask for?

I also coach the Battle of the Books team. This is a program for students that encourages them to read several genres and then compete in a county wide competition in February. I enjoy this part of my job very much. I always have a wonderful group of students and we have a lot of fun in our meetings. This club is open to all students. I welcome them to come and be a part of this team.

Student Media Assistants

  • We have 1-3 student assistants each class period who help with checkouts, shelving books, and creating special projects. Please feel free to ask them for help! If you would like to become a student media assistant, please ask us for an application. [Sorry, band and chorus students, but you don't have room in your schedule to help us out.]
