My name is Karen Diskin and I am a Fourth grade teacher with Cabarrus County's Virtual Academy.  I have 2 children. My son, Matthew Graduated from Jay M. Robinson 8 years ago and lives in Waxhaw. My daughter Meagan Graduated from Cox Mill 6 years ago and lives in Charlotte. I have one dog named Zoey who is 9 1/2 years old and 1 cat named Zelda who is 5 years old.

This is my 2nd year here at CVA. I am loving our Mascot--Go Hive! I taught K-5 SLD in Florida for one year before  moving up here to Concord. I then stayed home with Matthew and Meagan until Meagan was in 3rd grade. I went back to work as a Third Grade teacher at Beverly Hills for one year before moving to Pitts School Road Elementary School in 2005 when it opened.  I taught 4th Grade for 8 years before moving to 5th Grade.

I am so excited to be back in 4th Grade! This is going to be a fantastic year filled with wonderful opportunities to learn as we explore Math and Science.

    Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education And Special Education from Tusculum College in Tennessee- 1988 (Dual Degree)---Master of Education in Learning Disabilities and Mental Retardation from The College of William and Mary in Virginia- 1990.

    Interests:

One of my favorite things to do is to collect shells while walking on the beach. I also enjoy swimming. I prefer the pool much more than the Gulf or Ocean after having been stung by a stingray while on vacation in FL 3 years ago. That was not a fun thing to experience.

Another favorite thing of mine to do is to visit Disneyworld in Florida. Have to make time to visit Winnie, Daisy, Minnie, and of Course the head mouse, Mickey Mouse.

This past Spring I discovered that I have many food allergies just like your children or yourselves. I am Dairy free and Gluten free to name just 2.

    Birthday Celebrations:

Due to many different food allergies within the school, if you would like to send in a small goodie bag or trinket in place of cupcakes on the day we meet at the CVA, that will be perfectly fine.
