About Me!

Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jennifer McCarthy,M.A.,NBCT

I am currently in my fifteenth school year at Jay M. Robinson High School.  Currently, I teach AP Calculus and Discrete Mathematics as well as serve as the co-chair of the Mathematics Department. I try to gear my courses towards the student who is curious about how mathematics applies to the world around them.  I always strive to challenge my students mathematically and encourage them to step out of their comfort zone.  I expect my students to bring their best and in turn, I will bring my best.

I take pride in my own education, as well as that of my students.  I earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from UNC Charlotte in 2006 and a Master's degree in Mathematics Education in 2011.  For 8 years, I served as the instructor of Mathematical Evolutions at the UNC Charlotte campus of Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics and love to incorporate the history of mathematics into my courses.  In 2013, I completed the National Board certification process and hope to continue to improve as an educator and teacher leader.  In order to help all students at Robinson find a higher level of success, I was awarded the Burroughs Wellcome Career Award in 2015 and I will continue working with that grant through 2020.
When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me out on the trails training for my next race. I also enjoy competing in triathlons, Spartan races, and cycling events.  For fun, I love playing softball and football whenever I have the chance.  I'm always looking for ways to have fun and get the most out of life that I can!
