  • Parent Presentation Regarding Plan C

  • bell schedule

    Hello Harris Road families,

Thursday night the Cabarrus County Schools Board of Education voted to begin the 2020-21 school year in Plan C. Plan C is the 100% virtual option in which, unlike Plan B, students will not be coming into school for face-to-face instruction. While a time frame for how long we will be in Plan C was not stated, the Board did commit to reviewing COVID-19 data twice per month to determine which option was best for the students and families of Cabarrus County.

As parents, I know you have many questions. As this is a very recent development, I am not able to share many details regarding Plan C. My goal is to communicate details regarding Plan C as soon as we are able to do so.  One point that Dr. Lowder emphasized in his presentation to the School Board was that expectations for both staff and students will be increased as we seek continuous improvement on the quality of remote learning. Students should expect more synchronous interaction with teachers and grading will look different from the grading policy implemented last spring.

Please be on the lookout for information in the coming week.

    Steven Bookhart, Principal

  • Harris Road Families:

Gov. Roy Cooper announced on July 14, 2020, that N.C. public schools would return to school for the 2020-2021 academic year utilizing a mixture of in-person and remote learning, allowing school districts flexibility to utilize remote learning as an option.  If you would like for your child to remain at their home school and be enrolled in 100% remote learning, complete this Parent Intent Form. Otherwise, your child will attend school once a week in a blended remote learning environment.

    Harris Road Families,

Governor Cooper recently announced that NC public schools will be utilizing the Plan B approach as school begins August 17th. Under Plan B students will experience virtual instruction and some in school face-to-face instruction. As expected, we have numerous questions regarding Plan B. I have created a video offering some specifics regarding the implementation of Plan B at the middle school level and what that may look like for our students.  I encourage you to watch the following video.

While this initial video will not answer all of your questions or address all of your concerns, my goal is to continue to provide families with information and to answer your questions as information becomes available.

We are excited to welcome our students back into the building, even if it will be in a limited capacity.

  • To our Harris Road families,

Since March 13th our world has changed dramatically. We began this quarantine believing the world would change as a result of COVID-19. Now, as our country begins to lift quarantine restrictions, we are met with protests that will hopefully have a far more reaching impact on our world.

It is important that our Harris Road students and families know that I join with the members of our community in the fight against racism, violence, and injustice. Specifically, I want our African American students and parents to know that I hear your cries for change and stand with you in the fight to end systemic racism and bigotry which has haunted this country since our inception. I want you to know that I denounce the senseless murders of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

As principal, I am dedicated to ensuring all students regardless of race feel safe, accepted, valued and able to reach their potential without any discriminatory barriers standing in their way. As a school, we will continue to review our own practices to ensure we are fair and intentional in our pursuit of equality for all.

I hope all of our Harris Road families will join me in the fight against racism and injustice as together we can create change in our school, the community, and the world.

  • Parents:

Current NC legislation (SL 2020-3) includes a provision for students not initially placed in advanced math courses to request the administration of the end of grade (EOG) tests for the mathematics grade or course in which the student was enrolled for the 2019-2020 school year, solely for the purpose of determining math placement for the 2020-2021 school year according to Cabarrus County Schools criteria.

If your child has not been placed in an advanced math course, and you wish for your student to be included in this opportunity, you may request an EOG assessment by completing the EOG/EOC Advanced Math Assessment Request Form. Testing will take place at H.E. Winkler Middle School this summer.  Parents will be contacted via email for testing details.

If you have any questions, please contact our Assistant Principal of Instruction, Mrs. Brittany Allison, at brittany.allison@cabarrus.k12.nc.us.
