Mr. Scott Nolt

My name is Scott Nolt and I am excited to be with you at Cabarrus Virtual Academy. I have been a social studies teacher for 20 years and have taught US history, Sociology, Civics, AP US history, AP European history, AP Government. This year I will also be acting as Lead Instructional Designer for CVA along with helping design and facilitate classes.

I was born and grew up in Manitoba Canada, and came to NC for college. I graduated from Pfeiffer University with a BA in history and philosophy, I earned my MEd from UNC Charlotte in Learning, Design & Technology concentrating on Online Learning and Teaching and am working on an EdD in Curriculum & Instruction at University of South Carolina. I have been teaching blended and hybrid courses for seven years, and have worked at UNCC as an instructional designer.

My educational philosophy is to design learning that empowers students by recognizing and building on their unique context and perspective, build hope through relevant analysis of the subject, develop their skills of analysis and argument so that they can understand and have a voice to impact their world. Your class will reflect those priorities.

My online learning and teaching philosophy is for students to learn through authentic inquiry and interaction with each other, the course work and myself and develop presence and community in class through those relevant interactions that value student’s unique contexts and perspectives.
