Mrs. Michelle Sims
Dream big. Work hard. Be kind.
I am a middle grades teacher through and through. Some think that makes me a bit nuts, but I simply love seventh graders. This is my sixteenth year teaching, but my third year at Hickory Ridge Middle. I am excited to be part of the Maverick herd.
Although teaching English is important, learning to be responsible, kind-hearted, global citizens is even more crucial. We will laugh, learn, and grow together this year.
Welcome Back to School
Remember, school starts Monday, August 17th at 9:00 am. Students will "attend" school virtually from home. They will have live instruction with their core teachers Monday-Thursday. They will meet live through Teams. Class will start each day by hitting the MICROSOFT TEAMS BUTTON located in the CANVAS COURSE. This will help you launch directly into your synchronous (live) class sessions (M-TH). On Friday, there will be a recorded lesson (instead of a live lesson) posted in Canvas and work to complete. There is a short cut to Canvas on the Hickory Ridge website.
All online course work will be located in your Canvas course. Hit the "CLICK HERE TO START LEARING" button to begin. This will bring you to another page with buttons that correspond to each week's work.
Here is a link to schedule students will follow.
Avengers Parent Contact Form
Please click the following link to fill out the Parent Contact Form for the Team. This is the same link shared on Mr. LaRoche's website; if you filled this out once, you do NOT need to fill it out agian.
We want to open the lines of communication as soon as possible. This form will likely take you around 10 minutes to complete.
Sign up for Remind messages
This year, the Avengers will have one team Remind group. This group is designed to send quick messages to STUDENTS. Parents are welcome to join. However, we will be communicating with parents via email messages and weekly newsletters.
Join our team on Remind using the class code @avenger21 in the app if you already downloaded it. If you are new to Remind, more detailed directions are available here.
Cabarrus County Technology Fee
Each year, the county requests each child pay a supply fee. Since students are not currently attending school, there is little need for supplies right now. However, many of our families have taken technology devices home. With that comes repair costs. The county has asked students to pay a Technology Fee instead of a supply fee. Here is the link to K12 Payment Center. Parents are encouraged to make that payment digitally using this site.
If you would prefer to send in a paper check, you can make it out to HiRMS and send it to the school. Please write your child's name in the memo line. Include and up-to-date address and phone number on the check as well.
