Welcome to Genius Hour! What is it? Genius hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school. Who started it? The search-engine giant, Google, allows its engineers to spend 20% of their time working on any project that they want. The idea is very simple. Allow people to work on something that interests them, and productivity will go up. Why do it? A goal of every teacher is to create lifelong learners. Genius hour projects are a huge step towards that goal. We're giving students the hardest assignment they've ever had: to direct their own learning and discover their genius. They're going to ask questions we can't answer, wonder things we've never thought of, and develop skills that we don't have. Let's get started!! Follow this link for a glimpse at Genius Hour!
In order to volunteer in your child’s classroom, you will need a current Volunteer Background Check on file with the County Office. A Background Check is also required if you would like to go along on a field trip with your child and for parents who invite a friend to sit with their child for lunch in the Cafeteria. Background Checks typically take anywhere between 7 to 10 business days to process and are good for 2 years. Please contact Beth Wilburn (firstname.lastname@example.org) in the office if you have any questions or if you need the necessary paperwork. Click on CCS Volunteer in 'Quick Links'.
