W. R. Odell Facts and Memories...

Ms. Laseter's Class researched W. R. Odell Elementary School. The information below is written in the students' own words. Recognition is given to each child who contributed to this wonderful wealth of information.

Our school was named after William Robert Odell. It was built in 1929. (Jeremy P., Efren, and Brittany B.)

Mr. Odell was born in 1855. That was a long time ago. He thought school should be no longer and made it for 8 months every year. Students had to be out to pick cotton so he made it 8 months. (Bryan, Kellie, Stephen, and Jeremy H.)

Mr. Odell was very famous. He was a senator and boss of our schools (Chairman of the Cabarrus County Board of Education.) (Derek, Brea, and Tatum)

Our school used to be small. A long time ago the 3rd grade hall was the only hall. They didn't have a gym or cafeteria. They packed lunches from home and ate outside. (Shanise, Taylor, and Brittany)

They didn't have school buses back then. They had 4 wheel trucks to pick them up. Some students walked to school. (Kyle, Adam, and Travis)

They didn't have Kindergarten then. They didn't have 12th grade either. It was grades 1 to 11 here. (Justin, Turner, and Brittany C.)

Mr. Odell was 83 years old. Mr. Odell was very nice to me. I like Mr. Odell because he was very good. I loved him very much. I really like him a bunch. He was on the Board of Education. He worked at a textile company. (Jenny)

The school is old and because it was up for a long time, my mom and my uncle used to come to Odell. I like Odell so far. First I had Ms. Cummings, Ms. Beasley, and now I have Ms. Laseter. Ms. Laseter is a very good teacher. This school means a lot to me, just like my family does. There was no lunchroom. "W" stands for William and I forgot what the "R" stands for. I love my school like a friend. I am glad to be the only class to be on the website. I love Odell! (Brittany H.)
