In our 5th year of operation, HRHS is achieving great success in academics, athletics, clubs, and organizations. Results of the NC ABCs Accountability Model indicate high growth for 2010-2011 with 90.0% of our stuHonor Schooldents' test scores at or above grade level. In addition, our school met all AYP goals under the No Child Left Behind Legislation. HRHS is extremely proud of its students and staff for achieving designation as a North Carolina Honor School of Excellence by the NC Board of Education for the 3rd consecutive year.

 

Marching Band Applications Due June 1

Blue RegimentIf you have an interest in joining the award winning Hickory Ridge Blue Regiment Marching Band, your application with the initial $100 commitment fee is due on June 1, 2012. Applications are available online at www.hickoryridgebands.org.

Don’t miss your chance to build a legacy and be a part of a tradition of success! Financial arrangements can be made, but you still need to turn in your application and talk to Mr. White about a payment schedule.

 

PTSO Executive Board Nominations

The HRHS PTSO is currently taking nominations for its Executive Board for the 2012-2013 school year. Elections will be held on Tuesday, May 29th at 7:00 pm before the Band Spring Concert in the school auditorium.

 

Mobile Mammogram at HRHS

mammovanThe mobile mammography unit will be at Hickory Ridge on Wednesday, May 23, 7:00am - 11:15am. This is open to all HRHS staff, their family, students' families, and the community.

Appointment Criteria:

  • All patients wishing to have their mammogram done on the Digital Mobile Mammography Coach must call Radiology Scheduling at 704- 403-1729, Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to make their appointment.
  • All patients must have the name of their physician ready when they call in order to schedule an appointment.
  • All patients will be called 2-3 days prior to their appointment by Registration to pre-register them for their mammogram. At that time medical insurance information will be collected for filing purposes.
  • All patients must bring their insurance card to their appointment.

Please note: Having a mammogram on our Digital Mobile Mammography Coach is the same process as coming to CMC-NorthEast’s Breast Health Center for an on-site mammogram - the difference is that the imaging equipment comes to the patient! Appointment setting, insurance filing, etc., works just like coming to campus for the patient. Financial assistance is available.

The Concert, Jazz, and Wind Ensembles will perform their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 29th at 7pm. Please join us for this very special evening of great music. All concerts are free to the public.

 

Class of 2012 Signs

Senior 2012Be Proud of Your Senior and brag about them by displaying a yard sign for the spring and graduation.  These signs are not only great for parents, but grandparents and other family members will love to brag, too.  The signs are 18x24 double-sided and are available for $10.00.

Zumba!

zumbaHickory Ridge's Spring Leadership class will host another Zumba class on Tuesday, May 22nd. The class will be in the HRHS main gym from 6:00-7:00 pm, and it will only cost $5! The class hopes to raise money for the Leadership program and looks forward to seeing you all there!

Blue Regiment Announces 2012 Competition Show

Marching Band 2012The Hickory Ridge Blue Regiment marching band is proud to announce their fall 2012 competition show “Like No One is Watching.” Based on the poem of the same name, the group will create a performance around the visual and musical expression of dance, love, song and life. The marching band at Hickory Ridge has been incredibly successful since the school’s opening - winning over 200 awards including several “top band of the day” honors. The band looks forward to this next level of performance and continued success.

The band is also proud of their 2012 student leaders of the band who were recently selected after a full week of interviews and learning sessions: Diamond Nater, Sarah Shauber - Drum Majors; David Rivero - Woodwind Captain; Joey McCracken - Brass Captain; Greg Larson - Music/Drill Librarian; Taylor Gherardi - Rehearsal Facility Manager. The band will select their percussion and guard captains at a later date.

Team Member of the Month

PleasantsCongratulations to Mrs. Emily Pleasants, our Team Member of the Month. Mrs. Pleasants is a Social Studies teacher,currently teaching AP European History and Honors World History. She also sponsors the Graduation Marshals.

Here is what one of her colleagues had to say about her, "Mrs. Pleasants takes on the course load of Advanced Placement while hosting a student teacher and mentoring a faculty member. She administers several review sessions after school for her AP students, and is always approachable and friendly to all faculty and students alike."

We are proud to have such a kind and dedicated teacher at our school. Congratulations, Mrs. Pleasants!

Track & Field Star Signs

KinlochCongratulations to Mikayla Kinloch for receiving an athletic scholarship to run Track & Field for The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. A three-year varsity runner for the Bulls, Mikayla has received MVP and All-Conference honors, excelling in the long jump and triple jump. She has also served as a team captain and is a scholar-athlete.

Heart of a Champion

http://www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/jrhs/Images/heart.jpgAttention athletes: This year CMC-NorthEast has partnered with the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, as well as, the Sports Medicine & Injury Center to provide free Heart Screenings (EKGs) to Cabarrus County Student Athletes. Hickory Ridge’s screening date is Sat, June 30th.

These EKGs do not replace the athlete's annual physical and will be offered to rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Proctors Needed for Exams

Help! We are in the process of preparing for the Spring Exams, June 1-6 & 8. Proctors are responsible for assisting in state End-of-Course and Vocats exams by monitoring students during the exam.

Proctors can be anyone in the community over the age of 18 and not currently enrolled in high school. Fill out the Proctor request form.

Please consider helping with the administration of these tests and return the form to Mrs. Glovier in Student Services, or by email to susan.glovier@cabarrus.k12.nc.us.

Proctors are needed from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM(approximately) each day. Thank you for your help.

 

Prom Dress Code

Prom is coming up May 19. Students should adhere to the following dress code rules:

Girlsprom

  1. No slit higher than 3 inches above the knee.
  2. Cut-outs should not show the stomach.
  3. Deep v-necks should stay in good taste.
  4. Low backs should stay in good taste.
  5. No flip flops or tennis shoes - even if they are not shown
  6. No jeans or pants other than dress pants.

 

Boys

  1. No jeans or pants other than dress pants.
  2. No flip flops or tennis shoes - even if they are not shown.
  3. Formal attire required(dress pants, sports jacket).

 

If dress code is not followed, students will not be admitted to prom.
