Welcome to the Furr Elementary Splash Spanish Immersion Program
For the 2014-2015 school year we are pleased to offer SPLASH Spanish Immersion to all rising Kindergarten students who live in the Furr Elementary School district, as well as any rising Kindergarten students in Cabarrus County. The Cabarrus County School Board has approved open enrollment which will allow students outside the Furr feeder area to attend Furr Elementary to participate in SPLASH as long as their parents provide transportation to and from school. In the 2014-2015 school year we will have 4 Kindergarten classes in the SPLASH program which will accommodate up to 96 students. Students who live within the Furr boundaries will be given first priority for participation in SPLASH.
Students participating in the program will be taught the same Common Core Standards as students in traditional kindergarten classes. Those who are in the Splash program will receive that instruction in both Spanish and English, allowing them to learn a second language while simultaneously learning the kindergarten curriculum. The higher order thinking processes involved in learning through two languages enhances students' proficiency at learning new skills and provides life-long benefits. If you are interested in learning more about this exciting opportunity, please access the materials and information on this site. In addition, we will have multiple information sessions for parents in the near future and we invite you attend one of those sessions. In the meantime, please contact me or Mrs. Lisa Moore, Assistant Principal of Instruction, if you have any questions.
