The NC Department of Public Instruction is introducting a new measure of student learning called the Common Exam. Cabarrus County Schools will be implementing the common Exams during the final weeks of the 2012-2013 school year.
The Common Exams were developed by NC teachers and are based on the Common Core and Essential Standards which define what is taught in different classes and courses. The exams will follow a format similar to the new End of Grade and End of Course assessments. Students will be asked to answer both multiple choice and short answer questions prompting them to use higher-level thinking skills. Cabarrus County students will be taking the Common Exams in May and June using paper and pencil administrations.
At the high school level, Common Exams will be given for the following subjects:
-English Language Arts I, III, and IV
-OCS English Language Arts I, III, and IV
-AlgebraII/Integrated Math III
-Geometry
-Pre-Calculus
-Advanced Functions and Modeling
-OCS Intro Math
-OCS Financial Mgmt.
-Physical Science
-Chemistry
-Physics
-Earth/Environmental Science
-OCS Applied Science
-World History
-Civics and Economics
-US History
